Big price hike but who was buying the base car anyway? Why the facelifted 2025 Genesis GV80 price has gone up more than $20K with the introduction of the Coupe

Subtle tweaks are the name of the game for the 2025 Genesis GV80 update.

The 2025 Genesis GV80 range, including the Coupe, is locked in for Australia from $130,000 before on-road costs.

The Audi Q7, BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE rival may be a lot dearer on paper – its entry price up a whopping $24,300 – though Genesis says this reflects buyer preference for the Luxury pack and petrol power.

According to Genesis, over 95 per cent of buyers opted for the Luxury pack (previously $10,500) on their 279kW/530Nm 3.5T models, meaning the start price was really $120,700.

There are now three variants for the GV80: seven-seat, six-seat with captains chairs or new coupe body style.

Underneath there’s a revised global suspension tune for the adaptive road-preview dampers.

Visually, the updates are subtle with new 22-inch alloy wheels, fresh two-line headlights with Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology and a Genesis ‘expressive sequence’.

The new Double Mesh G-Matrix Grille – matching the updated GV70’s appearance – is paired with larger air intakes, a skid plate and ‘Guilloché-patterned’ emblem highlight. There’s a chrome strip on the lower body and a slimmer rear bumper that now hides the exhaust tips.

The Genesis GV80 gets revised suspension setting for 2025.

“Since its launch in 2020, GV80 has paved the way for our brand’s growing portfolio of luxury SUVs, establishing itself as our flagship model,” said Head of Genesis Australia Justin Douglass.

“With additional standard technology and features, refreshed styling and the progressive GV80 Coupe joining the range, 2025 GV80 continues as an alluring high-performance luxury offering in the marketplace,” he said.

The newly introduced coupe gets bespoke 22-inch alloy wheels finished in matte dark grey, while the distinctive ‘Parabolic’ line is unspoiled thanks to flush roof rails.

Inside, the GV80 gets new technology and uprated sound system.

Inside, there’s a more driver-centric layout than before with the same 27-inch OLED panel that integrates driver’s display and multimedia touchscreen as in the GV70. A 6.0-inch haptic screen is where you’ll find the climate controls.

The horn cover features the new Genesis emblem on the two-tone leather steering wheel, while pedal placement has been revised and there are knee pads on the centre console which features leather, aluminium and real wood garnishes as well as a redesigned wireless charging holder.

An 18 speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo is standard. Fingerprint authentication, connected services and over-the-air software update all feature as well. For extra luxury, Genesis now offers a rear seat entertainment package for $4500.

Nappa leather is standard and there are a total of 11 interior colours to choose from, including Smoky Green/Earth Brown Two-Tone and Ultra Marine Blue/Glacier White Two-Tone in the wagon.

Sporty choices such as Smoky Green/Vanilla Beige Two-tone with orange stitched seats and Obsidian Black/Savile red Two-tone with red stitched seats are reserved for the BMW X6-rivalling GV80 Coupe.

With a revamped range this year and new Magma models on the way, Genesis will look to capitalise on its success.

Additionally, the GV80 features real carbon fibre trim, a flat-bottom steering wheel, contrast stitching and seatbelts, and aluminium pedals. There’s also a Sport+ drive mode and selectable brake pedal feel.

Aiding brake performance are new monobloc front calipers, finished in silver on the SUV and black for Coupes.

Some of the 11 exterior colours include Uyuni White, Vik Black, Savile Silver, Makalu Gray, Capri Blue, Mauna Red, Storr Green and GV80 Coupe-exclusive Bering Blue.
