Performance cars for everyone: 2024 Nissan Z Nismo arrives with plentiful supply to tackle Toyota Supra and Ford Mustang GT

The first allocation sold out in less than an hour.

The most potent version of Nissan’s retro-styled Z Nismo sports car has arrived in greater supply.

Originally only 100 vehicles were made available in 2023 and that allocation was exhausted in under an hour.

Now the auto-only Z Nismo is available for order from dealerships with deliveries set to commence immediately. Nissan Australia said stock is plentiful and it can access more to meet demand.

Nissan Australia Managing Director Andrew Humberstone said the speed the first allocation sold out showed the brand needed to secure more stock to meet pent up demand.

“The Z Nismo is a vehicle that needs to be driven to be believed, and we’re so happy that even more Australians will now get the chance to do exactly that,” said Humberstone.

The Z Nismo is powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine that makes 309kW and 520Nm matched to a nine-speed automatic transmission that drives the rear wheels.

The Nismo boosts output by 11kW and 45Nm compared to the standard Z version.

Unlike the regular Z, the Nismo isn’t available with a manual transmission.

The Nissan Z Nismo is the most potent Z car to date.

Nissan has added plenty of hardware upgrades to make the Z worthy of the Nismo badge.

It scores bigger front brakes, a Nismo-tuned launch control setting, upgraded suspension and anti-rolls bars for improved cornering ability, Nismo exhaust and upgraded engine cooling.

This is joined by Recaro seats, fatter rubber for improved grip and a new Sport+ driving mode along with a range of styling and aerodynamic enhancements.

All those improvements don’t come cheaply, though.

The Z Nismo is priced from $94,000 (before on-road costs), which is $18,000 more than the standard Z auto.

The Nismo scores snug Recaro seats.

The Z’s natural rival is the BMW and Toyota co-developed Supra GR GTS that is priced from $97,380 with the choice of a manual or automatic gearbox.

That model is powered by a BMW-soured 3.0-litre six-cylinder inline turbocharged petrol engine that pumps out 285kW and 500Nm.

Buyers wanting old-school rear-wheel drive muscle can opt for a Ford Mustang.

The Mustang has performance bragging rights with its 5.0-litre V8 making 339kW and 556Nm. It’s also cheaper at $68,290 and has the added benefit of a back seat.
