2021-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee recalled for potential loss of steering control

In total, 280 local examples of the new-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee are affected by a recall.

Jeep's current fifth-generation Grand Cherokee has been recalled, just months after the five-seater launched locally and a year after the seven-seater hit local showrooms.

The recall pertains to a steering column shaft that could come apart from the U-joint, resulting in a loss of steering control.

In total, 280 units are caught up in the call back, ranging in model year from 2021 to 2023.

Owners affected by the most recent recall are instructed to contact their nearest Jeep dealership for an inspection and replacement parts – if necessary.

Jeep's previous-generation Grand Cherokee was subject to some 16 local recalls over its decade-long lifespan.

The new-generation Grand Cherokee however, is built in a new facility in the US, which Jeep said will alleviate some quality control issues that plagued the previous series.
