Volkswagen is offering five years of free servicing on select models

Volkswagen Australia has introduced a new offer, albeit temporary, to entice buyers into two of its slowest-selling models.

Customers who buy a new model year 2022 Volkswagen Touareg or Arteon will be granted five years of free servicing under the VW ‘Care Plan’, as long as it’s purchased before December 31.

Volkswagen says this extends to all variants of each model, and applies regardless of whether the car is bought under finance.

According to Volkswagen, this means Touareg 210TDI customers save $3600 and Touareg 170TDI buyers reduce their ownership costs by $3000. 

For the latter, the 170TDI, Volkswagen is also offering a limited-time $94,990 drive-away price until the end of the year.

Arteon 206TSI and Arteon 140TSI ownership costs are reduced $2700 and $2500 respectively.

The main caveat of the offer is that it only extends to 75,000km, which equates to an annual service every 15,000km, in line with Volkswagen’s recommendations.

Volkswagen this year secured 1000 extra units of Touareg, which it says is "the first time full supply of the brand's flagship has been available".

Some of those thousand Touaregs could come in handy for VW over the next several months, as the brand has shifted just 611 units this year to the end of August due to supply issues.

It's not for a lack of popularity in the segment - the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE have both topped 2000 units in the same period.

The Arteon meanwhile, has found 322 new homes to the end of August this year, with overseas reports suggesting the Arteon badge could be retired within the next two years.

This servicing offer isn’t the first time Volkswagen Group Australia has dropped a surprise ‘end of the year’ deal.

The last few months of 2021 were, for Skoda buyers, the only time they were able to snag a free seven-year warranty instead of the usual five. That is, of course, until Skoda recently made seven years the norm.

As part of this announcement, Volkswagen also has a drive-away prices on offer for some variants of T-Cross small SUV and Tiguan Allspace until December 31.  

The T-Cross 85TSI Life is currently available for $32,990 drive-away, while the Style variant sits at $36,990 (d/a).

For Tiguan Allspace, the 132TSI Life costs $49,990 (d/a), while the Adventure costs $54,990 (d/a).

Volkswagen Australia passenger vehicles boss Michal Szaniecki said the offer comes as an extra local measure to combat rising ownership costs and supply issues.

"Our team has been working to provide solutions to the rising production costs and supply restrictions that are global and industry-wide challenges," he said.

"We have successfully negotiated greater production for Touareg, created innovative limited-edition variants in a variety of model lines, and now, reduced servicing charges and provided drive-away pricing offers as elements we can control locally."
