2021 Chevrolet Silverado pricing and specs detailed: Cheaper LT Trail Boss grade designed to rival Ford Ranger Raptor and Toyota HiLux Rugged X in off-road appeal

The Chevrolet Silverado LT Trail Boss will sit below the LTZ Premium at $106,990 BOCs.

GMSV will double its Chevrolet Silverado range with the release of the LT Trail Boss in the third quarter of the year, priced at $106,990 before on-road costs.

Sitting below the $114,990 LTZ Premium, the LT Trail Boss differentiates itself with equipment designed to take it straight from the showroom floor to rough terrain.

Headlining these changes is a factory lift kit (+25mm front, +30mm rear), as well as Rancho monotube shocks and beefed-up underbody protection.

Compared with the LTZ Premium, the Silverado LT Trail Boss also scores smaller 18-inch wheels (versus 20 inches) and a blacked-out bumper bar for a more utilitarian look.

A mechanical rear locking differential, hill-decent control and a heavy-duty air filter also come as standard, while inside the front seats are electronically adjustable and the steering wheel sports a heating function.

The seats, however, are finished in cloth unlike the LTZ Premium’s leather, but there is heating for each pew.

The equipment list also includes remote vehicle start, keyless entry, push-button start and a wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto multimedia system, while front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert are fitted for safety.

Powering the LT Trail Boss is a 6.2-litre petrol V8, which if it matches the LTZ Premium, will output 313kW/624Nm to all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission.

GMSV boss Joanne Stogiannis said the new Silverado LT Trail Boss should appeal to local buyers looking to head off the beaten path.

“LT Trail Boss personifies what Silverado is all about. It’s big, it’s tough and it comes ingrained with brand-DNA which showcases qualities of strength, power, performance and no-nonsense work-hard attributes,” she said.

“LT Trail Boss is purpose-built, born to perform, offering rugged dependability in off-road settings when exploring on the weekend, but is also at home in urban environments during the week.

“It will enable big thrills and big adventures – it’s a way to really enjoy and experience the road less travelled.

“Based on interest in the Silverado LTZ Premium and the upcoming Silverado 2500, I anticipate there will be strong demand for the LT Trail Boss.”

Other off-road focused models available in Australia include the Ford Ranger Raptor, Toyota HiLux Rugged X, Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain and newly-revealed Mazda BT-50 Thunder.
