2023 Isuzu D-Max X-Rider revealed! Special-edition dual-cab positioned to take sales from popular HiLux, Ranger, and Triton

Isuzu Ute Australia has released pricing and features for its latest limited-edition ute, positioned between the mid-spec LS-M dual-cab 4x4 and LS-U.

The X-Rider nameplate returns for the first time since 2019, after some major adjustments to the D-Max range for the 2023 model year. The X-Rider carries largely the same specification as the LS-M ute, which normally includes 17-inch alloy wheels, cloth interior upholstery, a 7.0-inch multimedia touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, LED headlights, and, of course, the brand’s signature 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, producing 140kW/450Nm.

Additional equipment for the X-Rider includes a two-tone black grille, 17-inch alloys finished in black, matching black mirrors and door handles, as well as the addition of a sports bar, a soft tonneau cover and side steps, also finished in black.

The X-Rider is available only as an automatic dual-cab and wears a price-tag of $58,000 before on-road costs, placing it directly between the LS-M dual-cab auto ($53,800), and LS-U dual-cab auto ($61,000). Still placed atop the range is the more off-road focused X-Terrain (from $67,500).

Limited to 1020 units, the X-Rider is also only able to be chosen in grey, black or white, and brings the total number of D-Max variants to 25.

The D-Max continues to perform well in the segment, placing fourth overall in the ute market in 2022, behind the dominant Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger, and value-focused Mitsubishi Triton.

Price-wise, the new X-Rider variant is placed below the Ford Ranger XLT ($61,190), Toyota HiLux SR5 ($61,930), but above the Mitsubishi Triton GSR ($56,940).

Other adjustments which have recently been made to the D-Max range include the addition of base 4x4 SX variants with a smaller 1.9-litre engine (110kW/350Nm), priced from $50,200 before on-roads.
