2023 Nissan Z cops one in the nose! Split-grille front fascia confirmed as new accessory option

Nissan displayed the ‘Fairlady Z Customised Proto’ at this year's Tokyo Auto Salon.

Some love it, some not so much. Either way, the Nissan Z’s simple, rectangular grille opening is a clear tip-of-the-hat to the original 240Z that continues to influence this now iconic sports car line more than half a century after its ground-breaking 1969 launch.

But for those in the latter camp, from mid-this year Nissan will be offering an alternate split-grille fascia as a factory-produced, dealer-fit accessory in its domestic market of Japan.

First shown at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon, a ‘Fairlady Z Customised Proto’ version of the car was also at this year’s event, featuring the revised treatment which splits the grille horizontally with a narrow body-coloured section dividing a slim upper aperture and much wider lower opening.

It also adds a more pronounced spoiler with small vents above it and a racy splitter underneath.

But before you start scrambling for the order button on Nissan Australia’s website, CarsGuide has confirmed the company has “no current plans” to offer the alternate grille locally.

Maybe the much-anticipated Z Nismo, possibly arriving before the end of this year, will be a different story?
