Hyundai has updated the sedan version of its i30 N Premium performance sedan with pricing increased to $52,000 before on-roads from its previous price-point of $50,200.
The new price holds true regardless of whether the sedan N is chosen in standard eight-speed dual-clutch auto or six-speed manual guise, with the three-pedal version continuing as a no-cost option. The Sedan N continues with the same 206kW/392Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine as it launched with, driving the front wheels and featuring an electro-mechanical limited-slip differential.
New features for the 2024 model include updates to the styling with a lower, wider front grille, a more pronounced rear bumper, and it now also features the brand's signature front light bar as well as lightweight 19-inch forged alloy wheels and “motorsport-derived” chassis tweaks.
Functional tweaks for the update include new guides in the bumper to help cool the front brakes, as well as deeper changes to the chassis involving a reinforced engine mount membrane said to reduce vibration and improve agility, reinforced bushing for improved yaw response and steering precision, and a new rear suspension insulator for improved damping.
Hyundai says it has also tweaked the ESC software and hardware to further optimise body control, as well as updates to the steering yoke, universal joint, and software to enhance feedback and directness and precision.
There is also said to be improvements to brake fade, courtesy of a new thermal protector on the front brake hoses.
Other new features include the intelligent speed assist active safety measure deployed on other recent Hyundai models like the new-generation Kona, as well as additional USB-C outlets, and a revised wireless charging bay to accommodate larger phone models.
The 2024 i30 Sedan N also receives Hyundai's new Bluelink connected services suite which adds online features to the navigation system as well as an emergency SOS function.
Standard items continue to include dual 10.25-inch screens for the digital dash and multimedia touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a wireless charger and Bose audio system, LED headlights, leather sports front seats with heating and ventilation and 10-way adjust for the driver, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry with push-start ignition, rain sensing wipers, front and rear parking sensors, and the full active safety suite (although it notably continues to miss out on front radar support, and as such does not feature adaptive cruise or cyclist and junction assist for the auto emergency braking suite).
The only options on the new Sedan N are premium paint colours at $595 and a sunroof costing an additional $2000.
The Sedan N continues to be a somewhat unique offering in the Australian market, with its closest rivals at this price and performance level including the Volkswagen Golf GTI ($56,090) which is only available in hatch form, and the Subaru WRX (from $45,990) which is only available in all-wheel drive.
