2024 Subaru Forester pricing confirmed! Price increases for Mazda CX-5, Nissan X-Trail, Toyota RAV4 rival ahead of the launch of next-gen family SUV

The current Forester has been on sale since 2018, but a new one is on the horizon.

Pricing has crept up on the Subaru Forester medium family SUV ahead of the arrival of the new version, likely at some point this year.

The price increase is for the current Forester that has been on sale in Australia since late 2018.

According to Subaru Australia the price rise can be blamed on "increased costs associated with the production and logistics supply chain".

The increase is $800 for each model grade. That means the entry-level Forester 2.5i now kicks off from $38,690 before on-road costs.

The top-spec petrol-powered model is the Forester 2.5i-S and that's now priced at $47,140. The two hybrid grades are also up and they top out at $50,140 for the 2.0 Hybrid S. See the full pricing below.

Despite the increase, the Forester's opening price is lower than that of the most affordable all-wheel-drive versions of competitor models like the Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Mitsubishi Outlander and Nissan X-Trail.

The model year 2024 Forester introduces some minor changes, including the removal of the CD player, as well as a change to the colour of the shark-fin antenna and rear spoiler from body colour to black.

Also, the 2.5i, 2.5i-L and 2.5i Premium swap out halogen front fog lights for LED units, and the front fog light surrounding accents change colour for the 2.5i Premium.

Like all Subaru models except the BRZ sports car, all Foresters are all-wheel drive. Power continues to come from a 2.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine delivering 136kW/239Nm.

The hybrid uses a 2.0-litre engine and a hybrid setup but Subaru does not provide the total system power and torque outputs.

A new Forester is on the horizon and while timing is yet to be confirmed, it's likely to land this year. It ushers in a new design, upgraded multimedia and other in-car tech but is expected to carry over the same engine.

Calling out the make and model of every single car he saw as a toddler might have challenged his parents’ patience, but it was clearly a starting point for Tim Nicholson’s journey into automotive journalism. Tim launched the program, Fender Bender, on community radio station JOY 94.9 during completion of his Master of Arts (Media and Communications). This led to an entry role at industry publication GoAuto, before eventually taking the role of Managing Editor. A stint as RACV’s Motoring Editor – including being an Australia’s Best Cars judge – provided a different perspective to automotive media, before leading him to CarsGuide where he started as a Contributing Journalist in September 2021, and transitioned to Senior Editor in April 2022, before becoming Managing Editor in December 2022.
