Do tradies dream of electric vans? 2023 Ford E-Transit EV pricing and specs place it as Ford's most expensive model

Ford's all-electric E-Transit kicks off from $104,990 before on-road costs.

Ford’s all-electric E-Transit hits showrooms this week with a price-tag that might scare the horses a little.

The two-model range kicks off with the mid-roof model at $104,990 before on-road costs, while the high-roof version (with an extra 1.4 cubic metres of cargo space (12.4 plays 11.0) takes the sticker to $106,490.

Options amount to an extra sliding-side door (for the driver’s side) at $1000, prestige paint at $700 and SVO paint at $1400. You can also option a single passenger’s seat rather than the standard two-seat bench for $150.

All versions use the same 68kW battery and electric motor which makes 198kW of power and 430Nm, making the E-Transit the most powerful and fastest – as well as the most expensive – model in the Transit line-up.

By comparison, the most expensive conventionally powered Transit, the 410L LWB costs $67,090 and makes 125kW of power.

But if the E-Transit sounds pricey, it’s not out of the ballpark when compared with its – limited – competitors.

The LDV eDeliver9 starts at $99,990 and the Mercedes-Benz eVito costs $89,353.

Standard equipment for the E-Transit includes a 12.0-inch multimedia touchscreen with Ford’s full Sync4 connectivity, driver-selectable drive modes and a fold-down arm-rest for the driver. There’s also lots of storage spaces dotted around the cabin and USB charging ports abound.

The load area is fully lined, features a standard cargo barrier and the rear doors fold 270-degrees to sit flat with the sides and allow for fork-lift loading. A standard pallet fits between the wheel arches and there are ten tie-down points.

The on-board AC charger can completely charge the battery in eight hours. If you have access to a fast charger, the E-Transit will accept up to 115kW and can charge from 15 to 80 per cent in a claimed 34 minutes. Ford claims a 307km range for the van based on WLPT test procedures.

Contributing Journalist
Morley’s attentions turned to cars and motoring fairly early on in his life. The realisation that the most complex motor vehicle was easier to both understand and control than the simplest human-being, set his career in motion. Growing up in the country gave the young Morley a form of motoring freedom unmatched these days, as well as many trees to dodge. With a background in newspapers, the move to motoring journalism was no less logical than Clive Palmer’s move into politics, and at times, at least as funny.
