JDM is back! Iconic Nissan 200SX to make electrifying comeback in 2025 - reports

The iconic Nissan Silvia, or 200SX, is poised to make a comeback as early as 2025, with recent Japanese reports pointing to the performance car being reborn with electrification.

The news would complete the turning back of the clock undertaken in Japan recently, with 2025 the year a Nissan Z, Toyota Supra, Nissan Silvia and Honda Integra could all be doing battle once again.

The reports haven't come entirely from left field, with the brand having released official sketches of an electrified Silvia back in September last year.

"By re-designing this car for the future, we wanted to pay homage to that heritage. One of the most distinguishable features is the one clean line connecting the upper and lower body. In this version, we accentuated its presence even more by having a clean and sharp cut into the top of the wheel arches. Also keeping in mind the world of the future, we felt the design naturally suited being an electric vehicle," the brand said at the time.

"Being an electric vehicle, it gave us the opportunity to extend the clean surfacing around the front because an electric powertrain has far lower cooling requirements, so there is no need for a grille where radiators are traditionally located."

But now it seems that marketing move was driven by something more than nostalgia, with Japan's Best Car Web reporting that those sketches will become a guiding force for an all-electric Silvia that will launch in 2025. Exactly what will be powering it remains a mystery for now, but with Nissan's broader push to electrification gathering steam, you can likely expect rear- and all-wheel-drive architectures with a focus on performance over efficiency.
