MG4 first to score five-star ANCAP rating

The MG4 is the latest EV from MG to come to Australia

MG’s latest electric car, the MG4, has received the maximum five star safety score by the Australasian New Car Assessment programs (ANCAP).

The MG4 goes on sale imminently, however, it’s been tested under 2022 ANCAP criteria. Still the small electric hatch attained the five star rating which applies for all variants.

ANCAP reported that during the frontal impact the passenger compartment remained stable, but noted a poor performance in the far side vehicle to pole impact test. ANCAP also pointed out a lack of centre airbag which is increasingly becoming standard equipment on many new cars.

The MG4 scored high marks for child occupant protection (86 per cent) and for safety tech (81 per cent) such as auto emergency braking (AEB) with good cyclist detection, as well as performing well for turning scenarios.

“The MG4 Electric is the first MG model to achieve five-stars under ANCAP’s 2020-2022 protocols,” said ANCAP Chief Executive, Carla Hoorweg.

Of MG’s current line-up the MG3 hatch is unrated while the MG ZS small SUV scored a four-star rating in 2017 and the MG HS mid-sized SUV scored five stars in 2019.

The MG4 is currently one of the most affordable electric vehicles in Australia with listing pricing ranging from $38,990 for the entry grade Excite with the 51kWh battery.

Unable to build a laser in an exam and failing to solve the theoretical challenge of keeping a satellite in orbit, his professor noted the success Richard was enjoying in the drama and writing courses he had been doing on the side. Even though Richard couldn’t see how a degree in story-telling and pretending would ever get him a job, he completed one anyway.
