The entry cost to get into a new Chevrolet Silverado is now a little higher, as local distributor General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) has adjusted pricing along with adding some new features.
The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado range opener, the 1500 LTZ Premium, now costs $130,500 before on-road costs, or $2500 more than before.
It seems a significant increase, but in context at this price point it's a rise of less than two per cent, and it comes with a new feature that should appeal to Silverado customers: a new active performance exhaust.
The active exhaust, which is standard on both variants, can be used in a normal mode that sounds relatively tame, or opened up for more 6.2-litre Chevy V8 noise.
“The MY24 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will now be standard with an active performance exhaust system providing customers the flexibility of a ‘standard’ exhaust experience, or dialling up the limiter to hear that traditional V8 rumble,” said GMSV Director Greg Rowe.
The higher-spec Silverado, the 1500 ZR2, also gains the exhaust, though some more additions mean its price is up by $5000 and now wears a $138,000 asking price.
The ZR2 gains a rear-view mirror that connects to a rear camera, a new 15-inch head-up display, power adjustable steering column, a Bose premium sound system and adaptive cruise control.
In terms of sales, while the Ram 1500 dominates the ‘full-size’ American ute segment in Australia with 5922 sales in total for 2023, or 57.1 per cent of the segment, the Silverado 1500 holds a convincing second place: 2260 units in 2023 or 21.8 per cent. The Silverado HD holds third with 1105 sales and 10.7 per cent.
