Updated 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric car with more driving range confirmed for Australian arrival this year to take on Polestar 2 and Tesla Model Y

Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 will score a bigger battery and subsequently more electric driving range.

A facelifted and updated Hyundai Ioniq 5 is set to arrive later this year with mechanical, tech and design tweaks to improve the popular electric car.

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 launches in its home nation of South Korea this month and is set to arrive in Australia around mid-year - the headline new feature being the addition of an N Line variant to slot in between the regular and N variants.

Also new for 2025 is improved battery capacity for an increased range, though exactly what the new range is has yet to be confirmed. More specs will be available closer to its Australian launch, though the current Ioniq 5 can travel up to a claimed 481km in rear-drive with a long-range battery.

With an 84.0kWh battery replacing the 77.4kWh unit, a noticeable range bump is expected, though more noticeable will be the styling changes on the updated model.

The 2025 Ioniq 5 will feature restyled front and rear bumpers, resulting in an increased length of 20mm (now 4655mm long) though its 1890mm width, 1605mm height and 3000mm wheelbase remain unchanged.

Inside, you will find an updated steering wheel with interactive pixel lights, updated centre console controls for functions like the first-row heated and ventilated seats, heated steering wheel and parking assist, as well as an updated connected car Navigation Cockpit multimedia system.

New safety features include 'Hands-On Detection' for the steering wheel, as well as updated versions of 'Lane Keeping Assist 2', 'Remote Smart Parking Assist 2', and 'Forward/Side/Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist'.

Specific to the N Line is a set of 20-inch aluminium wheels and N style trim like unique bumpers and side skirts.

The suspension and body control and rigidity has been improved for what Hyundai says should result in more comfortable ride and body control, plus more sound insulation at the rear has been added for a quieter cabin.

Specific to the N Line is a set of 20-inch aluminium wheels, N style trim like unique bumpers and side skirts, plus interior sport seats with N logos and red contrast stitching.

More specifications will be confirmed, including price and timing, closer to its Australian launch mid-2024.
