Ask Smithy Xtra Citroen warranty

A year or two after buying a new Citroen C2 in 2004 with the Sensordrive we noticed it had lost power when taking off from a stop. This is very dangerous as you see a gap in the traffic and start off and the car hesitates for a moment before it goes again. We have had it back to Citroen a number of times and every time they advised it did not do it when they drove it and simply reinstalled the software and updated it. It would be ok for a month or so and then the same thing would happen again. It is now out of warranty and not fixed, so what can be do? Other mechanics said they could not do anything with it and to take it to Citroen. We have really enjoyed the car but with this unresolved issue I do not think we will buy another Citroen. I should also add that we got no satisfaction from Citroen and that sealed our decision.

Hopefully you have kept records of all of your dealings with the dealer, and other mechanics you have consulted, so you can mount a case with Citroen to fix your car. If you haven’t done it already seek out an independent Citroen specialist and get their opinion on the cause of the problem. I would contact Citroen in writing, enclose all the documents you have kept, and request the car be fixed. Point out that while the warranty has expired you reported it while the warranty was current and that it wasn’t satisfactorily fixed. If necessary leave the car with the dealer until the cause is found and fixed to your satisfaction. Legal action is also an option, but I would suggest you pursue a direct resolution with Citroen before resorting to lawyers.
