    Toyota Camry 2014: Hybrid ant infestation

    My wife took possession of a new 2014 Camry Hybrid six weeks ago as a work vehicle through a fleet company. On her drive home on day one she noticed ants crawling on her leg. The next day she went to see a client and left a can of soft drink in the centre console. On her return a few hours later the can was covered in ants. When I took a look later I noticed a few ants inside the car, but dozens more outside. I couldn't find where they were coming from so I sprayed fly/ant spray under the car and around engine bay. We took the car back to the dealer who on checking located a nest under the carpet at the centre console. Despite their efforts to get rid of the ants the ants were still there and we took it back again. This time they had the car for a few weeks this time, but the car still has ants, so again it's got to go back. Also they clocked up around 500 km on the car, a bit unusual seeing how it wasn't a mechanical issue. My wife has had the car for six weeks, but has only driven it for about seven days. It's been suggested the ants came from her work car park, but no one else has had the problem. It was also suggested that the ants came from our home, but I have a Honda Civic and there have been no problems with that, or the other cars we have had before the Camry. What can we do in regards to the dealer or Toyota rectifying the problem, or replacing the car?

    I would suggest you ask the dealer to engage a pest controller to rid the car of the ants. That shouldn't be a big problem. More of an issue will be who is to pay for the job. Were the ants there when you picked up the car, or did they enter it after it left the dealer. Perhaps you could check around the dealership to see if there is any evidence of an ant infestation on the property.
