I purchased a new PJ Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 dual-cab ute in 2008 and everything was going fine until last November when without warning it coasted to a stop when travelling at 50 km/h on a suburban street. When it was checked it was found that the number two big-end had seized. Some $13,200 later, after a complete engine rebuild, new injectors, a fuel pump overhaul plus other bits and pieces I was back on the road. I was given no explanation as to why it happened, and I have put it down to experience. Any ideas?
A lack of oil is the most likely explanation, although it could also have been caused by a manufacturing defect. At this point all you can do is what you have done, and that's to write it off to experience.
