Problems with Golf automatic transmission

I have a 2008 VW Golf TDI DSG (6-speed) that I bought in April 2012 from a Ford dealer. During the first three months I noticed the gears seemed snappy, specially changing down from 3rd to 2nd and in heavy slow traffic. I took it back to the dealer whilst I still had the statutory 3-month warranty, but they said they were unable to reproduce the fault. An independent VW specialist has since serviced it and at each service they have had to investigate and reset the clutch pack at considerable cost. Recently a VW dealer and service centre opened in my area, so I decided to get them to check the car out and find out if it should have been part of the recall. They advised it was not part of the recall, but will need the Mechatronics replaced at a cost of approxiimately $4000-$4500. They also reset the clutch pack back to factory settings. What if any redress do I have with either VW or the dealer I bought it from, and what would be the best way to go about it. The car is now six years old and has done 117,000km.

The recall you refer to related to cars fitted with the 7-speed gearbox, not the 6-speed. You could attempt to negotiate with VW over your concerns on the basis of goodwill, but your car is six years old and has been worked on by so many different people that I don’t think you have much of a chance of success.
