Vexing vinyl

ABOUT four months after buying a new Subaru Outback in December 2003, I noticed the vinyl had worn through, exposing the backing material on the beading on the side of the seat where you slide in on the driver's seat. A new panel of vinyl took five months to arrive. Have you heard of poor-quality material used before? I expect more from Subaru.

THE side support of the driver's seat wears fastest on most cars because the driver tends to slide their backside across it when getting in and out. I'm not aware of any particular problem with the Subaru trim, but you seem to be seeing wear far worse than I'd normally expect.
