I HAVE a 1982 Toyota Celica Liftback, which is nearing the 90,000km mark. It is a one-owner vehicle, in excellent mechanical condition and has no rust. I have been thinking of buying another vehicle and my friends say I would be better selling the Celica privately because I would get nothing as a trade-in. What price do you think I could expect selling privately or in a trade? Should I try to sell through a club to Celica enthusiasts? Also, is there a name for cars that reach this age and are they more valuable as they get older?
CARS are regarded as classic when they reach 25 years old, but that doesn't necessarily translate into a higher value. To find the nearest club contact your local motoring organisation. It would probably be worth $3000 as a trade-in, perhaps $4500 in a private sale.
