2017 Mini John Cooper Works Clubman revealed ahead of Paris | video

Mini spices up the Clubman with JCW-spec for Paris, Australian introduction expected for first half of 2017.

A John Cooper Works version of Mini's new Clubman was inevitable, and in the lead up to the next week's Paris Motor Show the British brand has taken the wraps off just their JCW hotted-up Clubman. This time however, their latest JCW variant sports a few tweaks to the familiar formula.

Rather than adopt the same drivetrain layout of the three-door JCW hatch and the JCW Convertible, the JCW Clubman uses Mini's ALL4 all-wheel drive system and comes with the same eight-speed torque converter auto used by other Clubmans.

Its Cooper S derived 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine has been massaged to JCW-spec to produce 170kW - similar power outputs as that from the mills in the hatch and convertible. However peak torque figures on the JCW Clubman stands at 350Nm, 20Nm more than the JCW hatch and convertible.

The JCW Clubman is loaded with the expected performance-enhancing goodies seen on other JCW variants.

Despite the increase in torque and the use of its all-wheel drive system, the JCW Clubman is able to sprint from 0 to 100km/h in 6.3 seconds, when paired with either the six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic, similar to the boast of a six-speed manual equipped JCW hatch. That being said, the six-speed automatic equipped JCW hatch is able to do the same sprint in 6.1 seconds.

Powertrain aside, the JCW Clubman is loaded with the expected performance-enhancing goodies seen on other JCW variants. The suspension system has a firmer setup and tweaked to suit the Clubman's longer wheelbase and weight, while the braking system now features Brembo-developed four-piston calipers.

Its standard list of driver assistance systems include Dynamic Stability Control with Dynamic Traction Control, an Electronic Differential Lock Control for the front axle differential, and Performance Control which sharpens the car's turn-in response.

As far as exterior appearances go, the JCW Clubman sports all the signature JCW styling in the form of its aerodynamically honed bodykit and roof spoiler to reduce lift, 18-inch John Cooper Works Black Grip Spoke alloy wheels, and racy appointments such as its hexagonal front grille with a red crossmember combination.

To further underline its styling for performance purposes, its bespoke front apron sheds the regular Clubman's parking and fog lamps in favour for bigger air inlets that feed air to the car's Works specification cooling system.

Beyond the JCW appointments, the JCW Clubman can be specified with a wide range of Mini options.

Its interior on the other hand is resplendent with JCW additions. JCW sports seats are upholstered in black suede-like Dinamica and fabric, and complemented by an anthracite coloured roof liner. Other JCW additions include the JCW leather steering wheel, JCW door sills, and stainless steel driver footrest and pedals. The optional heads-up display will display JCW specific graphics.

Beyond the JCW appointments, the JCW Clubman can be specified with a wide range of Mini options such as the 8.8-inch multimedia and Professional sat nav system with the Mini Touch Controller, panoramic glass roof, Harmon Kardon hi-fi audio system, and the Mini Excitement Package with an LED ring for the centre instrumentation, ambient lighting with selectable colours, and wing mirror logo projection.

According to BMW Australia the John Cooper Works Clubman will be hitting our roads by the first half of next year. Pricing and local specification details will be confirmed closer to its introduction date.
