2021 Skoda Kamiq 85TSI sold out for the year: Mazda CX-30, Mitsubishi ASX and Hyundai Kona-rivalling small SUV proves popular with buyers

Skoda is not expecting more supply of the Kamiq 85TSI to come on stream until 2022.

Skoda Australia has exhausted supply of the 85TSI version of its Kamiq small SUV for the year, less than six months after hitting showrooms.

According to the Czech brand, demand has been so high for the base version of the new crossover, and due to “overwhelming international sales and production restrictions”, “there is little likelihood of re-supply before the end of 2021”.

As the entry-level to the Kamiq range, the 85TSI is available in six-speed manual and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic forms for $26,990 before on-road costs and $27,990 respectively.

That means for the rest of the year, the only Kamiq available to buyers will be the 110TSI flagships, priced from $36,990 drive-away for the Monte Carlo and Limited Edition grades.

As a reminder, the Kamiq 85TSI employees a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol three-cylinder engine, sending 85kW/200Nm to the front axle.

The 110TSI grades meanwhile, up the ante to 110kW/250Nm thanks to a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, again driving the front wheels.

The Kamiq has quickly become Skoda’s best-selling nameplate, eclipsing the likes of the Octavia, Superb and Karoq this year.

For the first two months of 2021, Skoda has found 508 homes for its Kamiq, representing nearly 30 per cent of its overall 1736 year-to-date tally.

However, the new-generation Octavia is due to touch down on local soil next month, which should continue to boost Skoda’s bottom line.

So far this year, Skoda sales have increased 53.8 per cent compared to the same period in 2020, largely thanks to interest in the Kamiq, Karoq and Superb lines, as well as the recent release of the Scala small car.
