2022 Ram 2500 price and features: Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger too small? The latest full-sized American truck will cost more than both combined!

The Ram 2500 is powered by a 276kW/1152Nm 6.7-litre turbo-diesel engine.

Ram Australia’s new full-sized 2500 pick-up has landed in local showrooms with a hefty pricetag to match its gargantuan proportions.

Measuring over six metres long and 2.6 metres wide, the 2022 Ram 2500 is available in two flavours, the Laramie Crew Cab and Laramie Crew Cab RamBox, and wears a sticker price of $157,950 before on-road costs and $162,900 respectively.

This positions the 2500 well and truly above the 1500 (from $79,950) and new DT-series 1500 (from $114,950) in price and stature, as well as leagues above the popular Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger, Nissan Navara, Mitsubishi Triton and Isuzu D-Max.

To propel the 3.6-tonne truck is a 6.7-litre Cummins turbo-diesel inline six-cylinder engine, producing 276kW at 2800rpm and 1152Nm from 1700rpm.

Hooked up to the engine is a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission, able to send drive to all four corners.

Of note, fuel economy and carbon dioxide emissions are yet to be revealed.

A BorgWarner electronic transfer case enabling the usual ‘2WD’, ‘2WD High’ and ‘4WD Low’ modes is also on offer for those that like to get off the beaten path.

Braked towing capacity is rated at up to 8.0 tonnes if fitted with an auxiliary gooseneck town hitch and air brakes and “depending on what you’re towing and how you’re towing it”, according to Ram Australia.

Otherwise, the Ram 2500 can tow 3.5 tonnes (50mm ball) or 4.5 tonnes (70mm ball).

Payload capacity is called at 835kg or 754kg with the RamBox fitted.

The 2500 also comes with unique shock absorbers with what is called Frequency Response Damping, “allowing the 2500 to have sportscar-like suspension for handling and a supple suspension on rough terrain”.

Standard equipment includes LED headlights, 18-inch wheels polished aluminium wheels, six seats, partial leather interior, power-adjustable front seats, heated and cooled front seats (excluding the middle), a customisable 7.0-inch driver display, digital rearview mirror, active noise cancelling cabin, keyless entry, push-button start, and dual-zone climate control.

Handling multimedia duties is a 12.0-inch Uconnect touchscreen that can split two apps across the screen, with features including satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto support and a 10-speaker sound system.

Standard safety features include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and a surround-view monitor.

Like the name suggests, the Laramie Crew Cab RamBox grade adds the brand’s bespoke cargo bed storage solution, with weatherproof, lockable, drainable and illuminated stowage space.

The Ram 2500 comes with a three-year/100,000km warranty and, like the 1500, is imported and converted from left- to right-hand drive in Melbourne.
