2025 Mercedes-AMG E53 revealed: Bahn-storming petrol-electric hybrid arrives in sedan and wagon form to take on Audi RS6, BMW M5, Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo and Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid

Packing a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine supported by a single permanently excited synchronous electric motor, the new Mercedes-AMG E53 is a 430kW (585hp) / 750Nm plug-in hybrid powerhouse offered in sedan and wagon form.

Able to accelerate from 0‑100km/h in 3.8 seconds and drive over 100km in pure electric mode it joins the Mercedes-AMG GLE53 Hybrid 4Matic+ in the brand’s new wave of petrol-electric performance models.

Sedan and Touring wagon variants feature variable all-wheel drive and active rear-axle steering with the 120kW electric motor integrated into the car’s nine-speed dual-clutch transmission. AC charging capacity is 11kW with a 60 kW DC fast charger “available upon request”.

Mercedes-AMG says the latter allows the battery to be charged from 10 to 80 percent in around 20 minutes. Three-level regen braking delivers single-pedal driving in its highest mode 

Body shell reinforcement includes a strut brace between the front suspension mounts as well as additional struts connected to the main beams under the body. On the rear axle, additional struts from the side members to the rear ensure greater stability and driving precision.

An ‘Edition 1’ launch grade will introduce the new model globally with specific ‘Manufaktur’ paint and trim options available.

CarGuide contacted Mercedes-Benz Australia to establish local availability, timing and indicative pricing but the local subsidiary says it is “too early to confirm plans for the E53 for Australia at this stage”.
