BMW has upgraded its popular X3 and X4 mid-size SUV pair for the 2020 model year, adding more technology-focused equipment and rising prices $1000 across the line-up, barring the flagship M Competition grades.

As such, the X3 range now kicks off at $63,900 before on-road costs for the rear-drive sDrive20i, while the all-wheel-drive xDrive20d, xDrive30i and xDrive30d are priced at $67,900, $73,900 and $83,900 respectively.

Meanwhile, the X4 also receives the same price increases, with the xDrive20i, xDrive20d and xDrive30i now wearing a corresponding pricetag of $77,900, $80,900 and $84,900.

The X3 M40i also rises to $100,900, the first time it has broken the six-figure barrier, while the X4 version is $110,900.

For the step up in price, BMW now fits all X3 and X4 models with its all-digital ‘Live Cockpit’ 12.3-inch instrumentation display, while the multimedia system storage is increased from 12GB to 32GB and ‘Connected Package Professional’, which includes online services, speech recognition, real-time traffic information, concierge services and one-year Apple CarPlay subscription, is added.

The top-tier X3 and X4 M Competition variants, priced at $157,900 and $164,900, remain unchanged in price after being introduced to local showrooms in August, while also receiving the same aforementioned specification upgrades.

Meanwhile, the xDrive20d variants are propelled by a 140kW/400Nm turbocharged 2.0-litre diesel engine.

xDrive30d and M40i grades step up to a turbocharged 3.0-litre straight six – sipping diesel and petrol respectively – with outputs maxing out at 195kW/620Nm and 285kW/500Nm.

The fire-breathing M Competition variants also employ a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine, delivering 375kW of power and 600Nm of torque.

All X3 and X4 models feature an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Standard equipment includes a head-up display, 19-inch wheels, cloth and leather interior, satellite navigation, LED cornering headlights, and digital radio.

Safety systems include autonomous emergency braking, reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, lane departure warning and hill decent control.
