BYD electric car Fang Cheng Bao Super 9: Wild supercar EV concept channels Ferrari Monza, McLaren Elva and Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren

The Super 9’s development was led by BYD’s Head of Design, Wolfgang Eggert, formerly of Lamborghini and Audi.

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes-Benz should be feeling well chuffed with the unveiling of the Formula Bao Super 9 concept.

Fang Cheng Bao, anglicized to Formula Leopard, is a BYD subsidiary established in mid-2023 focusing on SUVs as well as off-road 4WDs and performance models.

As reported by CarNewsChina.com, at the company’s recent Spring Conference the covers were pulled off the dramatic Super 9 ‘barchetta’-style speedster concept created to celebrate BYD’s 30th anniversary.

Obviously drawing inspiration from exotic two seaters like the Ferrari Monza, McLaren Elva and Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss edition, the car’s development was led by BYD’s Head of Design, Wolfgang Eggert, formerly of Lamborghini and Audi.

With no windscreen, dihedral ‘scissor’ doors and aero-influenced bulges behind the occupants heads the wild two-seater also features carbon-fibre seats, a dramatically elongated steering ’wheel’ and a monster active rear spoiler.

No details on powertrain or production potential at this point although the company has multiple ‘DMO’ dual-motor AWD and large hi-power battery options at its disposal.

Fang Cheng Bao is one of three BYD sub-brands, positioned below the premium YangWang nameplate but above value-focused Denza.

According to CarNewsChina BYD established 70 Fang Cheng Bao stores across China in 2023 and aims to expand that to 150 in 2024.
