Coming to take on Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger? Is this a new 2024 SsangYong Musso XLV facelift? - report

The Musso seen on Korean forums and reports appears to be a heavily facelifted version of the existing car.

The current version of the SsangYong Musso ute could make way for a tougher-looking update, as new images of the sibling to the Rexton SUV have been seen on Korean reports looking rather different to the current version.

Korean forum and car news site Autospy has this week published posts from users and reporters featuring images of a SsangYong ‘Khan’, known here as the Musso XLV, wearing new KG Mobility badging on the rear as the brand shifts from its old name.

While the SsangYong brand name is set to remain in Australia for the foreseeable future, it won’t prevent the company from bringing new KG-branded models from Korea in an effort to boost its local presence.

A spokesperson for SsangYong Australia told CarsGuide an updated right-hand-drive Musso is planned for a launch in Q4 this year, though further details haven’t been confirmed to us yet.

The current SsangYong Musso launched internationally in 2018, so a major facelift could mean the model will continue for more years to come.

The current model was refreshed with a more powerful version of its 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine for South Korea last year, though the Australian version sticks with the 133kW and 400Nm outputs.

The Musso’s sibling that lends its platform to the ute, the Rexton SUV, was also facelifted within the last couple of years, and did receive the more powerful engine with 149kW and 441Nm, though no new apparent update is on the cards.

SsangYong confirmed in March its shareholders agreed to change the name from SsangYong to KG Mobility, and said more change is coming.

"We will grow and develop into a respected and proud company as a future mobility partner by focusing on the field of mobility technology."
