Cop that BMW X4 M! 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLC43 and 63 performance Coupe SUVs revealed as rivals to Porsche Macan and Maserati Grecale

The Coupe follows the SUV version of the AMG models that were revealed in August.

Mercedes-Benz has capped off the rollout of its GLC medium SUV line-up with the reveal of the AMG Coupe versions this week.

As with the AMG versions of the SUV body style revealed in August, the Coupe will be offered in 43 and hardcore 63 guises and the Coupe features the same powertrains as its boxier sibling.

The AMG GLC43 Coupe uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, with 48-volt mild hybrid assistance, offering up 310kW of power and 500Nm of torque. Both the 43 and 63 drive all four wheels via Benz’s '4Matic' all-wheel-drive system and use a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The 63 uses a seriously uprated version of the same engine, with more hybrid power. If this sounds familiar, that’s because it’s the same unit from the AMG C63 mid-size sedan.

In the GLC Coupe and the SUV, the engine alone punches out 350kW, but the total hybrid system output - including electric motor and battery - is 500kW and 1020Nm.

In terms of speed, the 43 Coupe can cover the 0-100km/h dash in 4.8 seconds, while the 63 does the same distance in just 3.5sec. These are the same figures as the SUV.

Fuel consumption is rated from 9.8 litres per 100 kilometres in the 43, and that drops to 7.5L for the hybrid 63.

As well as the sporty body kit and swoopier silhouette, the AMG Coupe comes with 19-, 20- or 21-inch alloy wheels, a flat bottom Nappa leather steering wheel, AMG sports pedals, floor mats and door sills, synthetic leather seats with optional Nappa leather trim, adaptive dampers, sports brakes and many more go-fast features.

The Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 and 63 won’t be alone when they arrive in Australia next year. There are a number of hi-po medium SUV rivals to compete with, including the BMW X3 and X4 M, Porsche Macan GTS, Maserati Grecale Trofeo, Audi SQ5 and the Alfa Romeo Stelvio QV.

Mercedes-Benz Australia confirmed that both the SUV and Coupe versions of the 43 and 63 are expected in Australian dealerships in quarter four, 2024.

Tim Nicholson
Managing Editor
Calling out the make and model of every single car he saw as a toddler might have challenged his parents’ patience, but it was clearly a starting point for Tim Nicholson’s journey into automotive journalism. Tim launched the program, Fender Bender, on community radio station JOY 94.9 during completion of his Master of Arts (Media and Communications). This led to an entry role at industry publication GoAuto, before eventually taking the role of Managing Editor. A stint as RACV’s Motoring Editor – including being an Australia’s Best Cars judge – provided a different perspective to automotive media, before leading him to CarsGuide where he started as a Contributing Journalist in September 2021, and transitioned to Senior Editor in April 2022, before becoming Managing Editor in December 2022.
