Get to the charger! 2024 Land Rover Discovery Sport adds plug-in hybrid flagship, ups pricing significantly

Land Rover’s new Discovery Sport is now available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Land Rover has updated its Discovery Sport for 2024, introducing a new range-topping plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variant, as well as range-wide upgrades to the multimedia system.

However, customers will be asked to pay significantly more money for the 2024 Land Rover Discovery Sport with price rises across the carryover entry-level P250 SE and now mid-tier P250 HSE.

The former is now priced at $85,250 before on-road costs, jumping up $4280 compared to before, while the latter is $94,800 – a noticeable $9260 increase from last year.

Sitting atop the refreshed range is the P300e SE positioned at $103,450.

However, the entire 2023 range now includes a new-look dashboard with the latest Pivi Pro 11.4-inch multimedia touchscreen that is now curved.

Land Rover points out that users can “access 90 per cent of tasks within two taps from the home screen”, easing functionality while driving.

The 2024 Discovery Sport PHEV wears a price tag of 3,450.

The system is also fitted with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto.

The updated multimedia system has also necessitated a dashboard redesign, which now incorporates a wireless smartphone charger and additional storage options for front passengers, as well as a new gear shifter.

Also standard on the new Discovery Sport line-up is a digital instrument cluster, while available equipment extends to a surround-view monitor, new wheel designs offered in 19- and 20-inch sizes, and a Versine Blue exterior paint option.

Upfront of the Discovery Sport is a curved Pivi Pro 11.4-inch multimedia touchscreen.

Buyers can also option up to seven seats in the large luxury SUV.

The outside is also revised in the updated Discovery Sport, with all local models now featuring a gloss-black roof and exterior accents.

Powering the P250 variants is a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine with mild-hybrid technology, which outputs 183kW/365Nm to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission.

New wheel designs are offered in 19- and 20-inch sizes.

The P300e plug-in hybrid meanwhile, pairs a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol three-cylinder engine with an electric motor, but combined outputs are yet to be revealed.

With a 14.9kWh battery in tow, the P300e can travel up to 66kms before the petrol engine kicks in.

Local customers can order the 2024 Discovery Sport now, with deliveries expected from December this year.

Buyers can also option up to seven seats in the Discovery Sport.

The Discovery Sport PHEV was revealed back in early 2020, and earmarked to come to Australia in 2021, but circumstances prevented the car arriving in local showrooms back then.

The old car’s powertrain is similar to the new one, and pushes out 227kW/540Nm, but it is unclear of there has been an update to the engine and electric motor.
