Mercedes-Benz performance arm AMG has revealed photos and details at Los Angeles motor show of the new GLA45 AMG concept we got glimpses of yesterday in a teaser video.
Based on the GLA compact SUV that will arrive here mid-2014, the GLA45 AMG adds some sting to the tale -- promising it will deliver a 0-100km/h acceleration time of less than 5 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h.
Sharing the GLA platform with the A-Class and B-Class, it also carries the GLA's 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine developing 265kW of power and 450Nm of torque, with a '4Matic' seven-speed DSG delivering drive to all-four wheels via an on-demand 4WD system.
The LA show car is dressed with vinyl foil wrap on bonnet and sides -- with the number 45 shouting loudly on the doors -- cross-spoke matt black forged AMG wheels set off by a red rim detail, and upgraded AMG brakes with red calipers, a large rear roof spoiler, black front splitter, air deflectors, door sill inserts and tailpipe trims on the AMG sports exhaust flap.
AMG is presenting the GLA45 as a concept 'outlook on a compact, high-performance SUV' but there's little doubt this one is headed to production, following in the tracks of the A45 and CLA45 AMG variants -- meaning it could arrive in Australian showrooms as early as the end of next year.
