Smooth operator! 2025 Skoda Superb breaks cover to keep the large sedan flame alive

Skoda has unveiled its next-generation Superb, which is due in Australia from early 2025 in sedan and wagon form.

Though specifics have yet to be confirmed for the Aussie versions, the headline changes to the fourth-generation model overseas is a floating multimedia screen up to 13.0 inches in size, revised powertrain options and a boosted boot capacity thanks to larger dimensions.

Skoda is boasting brighter LED matrix headlights, an optional head-up display that is available for the first time, wireless smartphone charger, massaging seats and a digital instrument cluster.

The aforementioned multimedia system is also available in a 10.0-inch size for lower grades of the Superb, but digital radio and voice commands still feature.

As for the powertrains, there are three petrol choices (one of which is a mild-hybrid) and two diesels, as well as a plug-in hybrid option – at least in overseas markets.

The Australian market engine range is unclear for now, but given the outgoing Superb was offered exclusively in petrol guise, expect the trend to continue for the 2025 model.

It is unclear if Australia will receive the plug-in hybrid Superb option.

At the lower end of the spectrum, the 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol and 2.0-litre turbo-diesel produce 110kW.

Next up the output rung is the plug-in hybrid and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol that makes 150kW, while a higher tune of the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel ups the ante to 142kW.

Topping the range is a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine punching out 195kW.

The headline changes to the fourth-generation Superb overseas is a floating multimedia screen up to 13.0 inches in size.

All engine options are paired to Skoda’s DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission, while top-spec petrol and diesel options will also feature all-wheel-drive traction.

Standing the new-generation Superb apart is a new Skoda grille, steering column-mounted gear selector, and overall styling tweaks that has amounted to a 10 and 15 per cent improvement in aerodynamic efficiency in sedan and wagon form respectively.

Skoda is also attributing the 20 and 30 litre increase in boot capacity for the sedan and wagon respectively – to 645/690L – to longer and taller dimensions, while the 2841mm wheelbase carries over as before.

The Superb in wagon form has a boot capacity of 690 litres.
