Mercedes-Benz EQE

Mercedes-Benz EQE

Reminiscent of a classic E-class sedan on the inside, featuring a luxurious, spacious, tech-rich interior, sadly everything else about the EQE feels alien.

It's design doesn't exactly herald an exciting new chapter for the brand, while its performance is okay, but far from what Mercedes is capable of.

The line-up currently starts at $133,575 for the EQE 300 and ranges through to $214,600 for the range-topping EQE 53 4Matic+.

Mercedes-Benz EQE Interior

The EQE SUV's huge centre info-screen contains all the menu functions, and the animated dashboard combines with a standard head-up display. The column-mounted gear selector makes sense, but like many new Benzes, the steering wheel is awash with controls.

The Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan’s interior is gorgeous and highlights the fact that the comfort of its occupants come first. The mixture of leather trims, soft touchpoints and beautiful 64-way coloured ambient lighting exude a high-quality build.

The dashboard is uncluttered and features a lot of empty space but is headlined by the portrait-style touchscreen multimedia system and 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. The air vents resemble aeroplane jet turbines and there are enough chrome inserts to make it look like an expensive jewellery cabinet.

A black headliner comes standard, as does a panoramic sunroof.

Mercedes-Benz EQE Range

For the EQE SUV range, M-B claims a driving range of 539km for the 300, but that's against the NEDC test protocol which isn't as tough as the WLPT test system. Even so, that's a decent range and with a fast-charger, the EQE can go from 10 per cent to 80 per cent charged in about 32 minutes.

For the EQE sedan range, the EQE300 has a driving range of up to 626km. The official energy consumption is 16.3kWh/100km (ADR 81/02).

The EQE350 4Matic has a driving range of up to 590km. The official energy consumption is 17.6kWh/100km (ADR 81/02).

The EQE53 4Matic+ has a driving range of up to 500km. The official energy consumption is 21.8kWh/100km (ADR 81/02).

Mercedes-Benz EQE Boot Space

With all seats occupied, there's 520 litres of luggage space in the EQE SUV. Fold the rear seats flat and there's 1675 litres. The luggage space also features an under-floor storage area for the charging cables and first-aid kit. The loading height is a nice compromise, too.

For the EQE sedan, the boot space is not as large as other sedans on the market but will still comfortably fit 430L (VDA). All models enjoy a powered boot lid as standard.

Mercedes-Benz EQE Speed

Mercedes claims a 0-100km/h time of 7.3 seconds. That's a lot slower than the 3.7sec achieved by twin-engined models in the EQE SUV range, but still more than handy enough for a family SUV. Top speed ranges from 201km/h to a (restricted) 240km/h.

Each model for the EQE sedan has an official 0-100km/h sprint time with the 300 model achieving it in 7.3 seconds. While the 350 4Matic and Mercedes-AMG 53 4Matic+ achieving sprint times of 6.3 seconds and 3.5 seconds, respectively.

The top speeds for the EQE sedan ranges between 210 and 220km/h.

Mercedes-Benz EQE Colours

Typically, Mercedes has stuck to some pretty conservative colours for the EQE line-up. As ell as the usual silvers, black and white, there are a couple of more cheerful hues including metallic red and blue. Don't go looking for lime green or bright orange, however.

There are six standard colours and three at cost optional colours to choose from for the EQE sedan, such as ‘Polar White’, ‘Obsidian Black’, ‘Sodalite Blue’, ‘Graphite Grey’, ‘High-tech Silver’, and ‘Selenite Grey’.

There are three optional at cost colour options, such as, ‘Manufaktur Opalite’, ‘Manufaktur Alpine’, and ‘Manufaktur Patagonia’.

‘Manufaktur Graphite’ is a colour option that is exclusive to the Mercedes-AMG 53 4Matic+ model.

  • Alpine Grey Solid
  • Sodalite Blue Metallic
  • Selenite Grey Metallic
  • Obsidian Black Metallic
  • High-Tech Silver Metallic
  • Polar White Non-Metallic

Mercedes-Benz EQE Accessories

Rear-wheel-steering is the one option we reckon you'd want to add to the EQE300 SUV. It's standard on other models, but an extra-cost option on the entry-level car. But it reduces the turning circle by a useful amount and makes the car more fun on the right road. The one thing you can't option up to on this model is the full-width dashboard.

Standard accessories for the EQE sedan include 20-inch alloy wheels with aerodynamic covers, LED 'Digital Light' lights, a panoramic sunroof, heated front seats, leather steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, keyless-entry, push-button start, powered tailgate, rear privacy glass, reversing camera with guidelines, front and rear parking sensors, 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, augmented reality satellite navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, and a wireless charging pad.

Mercedes-Benz EQE Engine

The only EQE SUV with a single electric motor, the 300 still manages to summon up 180kW of power and a worthy 550Nm of torque. The 300 is also the only rear-wheel drive model (the rest are twin-motor all-wheel drive).

For the sedan range, the EQE300 has a single electric motor with a battery capacity of 89kWh and a maximum power output of 180kW and 550Nm of torque.

The EQE350 4Matic has dual electric motors with a battery capacity of 90.5kWh and a maximum power output of 215kW and 765Nm of torque.

The EQE53 4Matic+ has dual electric motors with a battery capacity of 90.5kWh and a whopping maximum power output of 460kW and 950Nm of torque!

Mercedes-Benz EQE Seats

With heated front seats and a comfy rear bench, the EQE SUV is very family-friendly. A nice safety touch is the adjustable front head-rests which can be positioned closer or farther away form the front seat passenger's head to minimise whip-lash injuries.

The Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan comes with five seats, configured in a 2/3 setting.

Black/ Space Grey leather upholstered seats come standard but are upgraded to Nappa leather on the top model.

Both front seats are electric with four-way adjustable lumbar support and extendable under thigh support. Both front seats are heated and feature memory functions.

The back seat features a 40/20/40 split-fold and has a fold-down armrest that has two retractable cupholders, as well as a device holder.
