If you can't afford a Ferrari - and who can - Alfa Romeo's 4C might just be the answer to your prayers. While it's not cheap (prices range from $72,160 to $123,860) the 4C, launched in 2013, is a whopping bargain next to any Italian supercar, yet it boasts the kind of 'look at me' beauty that justifies just about any expenditure (particularly in red). With is all carbon-fibre tub it's also got genuine supercar cred, with a stiff chassis and kerb weight not much over 1000kg, which means it's fast, despite having only a 1.75-litre engine on board. Whether you get the Coupe or 33 Stradale Tributo Spider, it's also properly noisy, uncomfortably small inside, muscular in the steering department, firm on the road and difficult to see out of. Just like a proper Italian dream car should be.
The all-new Giulia looks great up close. It also promises to drive far, far better than the 4C Spider I sampled in Italy.
