If there's one thing Audi know how to do well, its a mid-size performance SUV.
A practical, luxurious SUV with ramped up performance thanks to the addition of a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 , what's not to love?
The line-up currently starts at $174,815 for the SQ7 4.0 Tfsi Quattro and ranges through to $174,815 for the range-topping SQ7 4.0 Tfsi Quattro.
Under the bonnet is a 4.0-litre V8 with its two turbos in the middle of the 'V' (known as a hot vee) generating an impressive 373kW at 5500rpm and spreading its 770Nm broadly from 2000-4000rpm. It is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Audi SQ7 is the fastest Q7 you can get, hitting 100km/h from rest in 4.1 seconds and going onto a limited top speed of 250km/h.
The Audi SQ7's interior is handsome and well presented. It has modern technology, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, even though the touchscreens are a little small. It has storages for bottles, cups and other effects however it is not the most practical in class. There is plenty of customisation with different leather trim colours available at a cost.
The SQ7 TFSI is well specified, and features Matrix LED headlights, surround-view cameras, all-wheel steering, adaptive cruise control with full stop/go, eight airbags and hill-descent control. These come on top of items such as adaptive air suspension, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, rear privacy glass, soft-close doors, a powered tailgate with gesture control, heated/folding heated exterior mirrors with memory function, a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation, ‘Valcona’ leather upholstery, electrically adjustable sports front seats with heating and four-zone climate control.
On the multimedia side of things, you'll find satellite navigation, Audi Connect Plus emergency assistance, digital radio, premium audio with 19 speakers, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and Bluetooth telephony. Finally, the SQ7 TFSI also comes with roof rails, metallic paint, an S body kit, paddle shifts, sports steering wheel, and 22-inch alloy wheels. A space-saver spare wheel is fitted.
Audi's luxurious SQ7 has seven seats, all appointed in leather. The front seats are power adjust with heating and ventilation and optional massage function. The second row can be had with heating, too, and the bench can slide or tilt to balance cargo space and comfort. Raising and lowering the third row — the only one not super spacious for adults — is done electronically.
The Audi SQ7's boot is large and well appointed with the ability to raise and lower the rear air suspension to make it easier to load bulky items. Audi's published cargo capacity varies from 293L with all seven rows up, increasing to 793L with five seats in place and 1921L with the 40/20/40 split-fold rear seat dropped. There is no spare tyre in the SQ7 petrol, just a tyre inflation kit.
The SQ7's rated fuel economy is 11.8L/100km in the ADR combined cycle giving the SUV a cruising range of around 720km when the 85-litre tank is brimmed with 98 RON premium unleaded.
