Have you heard of a problem with the dashboards falling apart on Toyota 120 Prados and the equivalent Lexus GX470 sold here from 2003 to late 2009? To date nearly 50 cases of cracked dashboards have been recorded in Australia, but the real number could be in the thousands. Typically, cracking first starts to appear over the top of the instrument panel and then also around the passenger airbag. Where the cracking appears in the airbag area it is Toyota's view that the vehicle is deemed unsafe as the cracking can interfere with the correct and safe deployment of the air bag. In this case the car should not be driven and be attended to by a qualified Toyota technician immediately. Despite this Toyota refuses to respond to the matter. They claim to have 'never heard of the problem' when someone new calls to lodge a claim/complaint.
Yours is the first report of a problem we have received at Cars Guide. We have passed your report on to Toyota for their response, and in the meantime ask Prado owners to contact us if they have had the same problem.
