IS IT illegal to drive a car with inoperative electric windows? The windows on my VN Holden Calais haven't worked for a couple of months. After paying a few hundred dollars to an auto electrician, nothing has changed. At one point I was questioned about whether I had used the cruise control, abused the side-mirror controls, or opened and shut the windows until they broke. So far the car has been patched up with new fuses, which invariably blow the next day.
I'M NOT aware that it is a legal requirement the windows should operate, but it is a safety issue. Having windows that won't lower could mean getting stuck in a car and being unable to get out in a crash. Try another auto electrician. It sounds as if there is a deeper problem.
