Fortuner speedometer hard to read in daytime

The 2015 Toyota Fortuner base model doesn't have a dimmer for the speedo lighting, which makes it hard to see the speedo in the daytime. Backlighting comes on at night automatically, but during the day in full sun and glare the speedo just cannot be seen, even with lights on, let alone wearing sunglasses. Consequently, you have to peer at the speedo to see how fast you are going. I bought it from a dealer secondhand and the service manager said there is no computer adjustment available and no device such as a traditional dimmer knob. Any clues how to overcome this?

You could perhaps shield the speedo to reduce the glare and then use the headlights, which would bring on the lighting on the speedo.
