RECENTLY I was driving just above the speed limit overtaking a marginally slower car on a two-lane highway when a car behind me started to flash its lights. I've always assumed this means someone wants me to stop for some reason, so I slowed down. The car behind started beeping furiously with further light flashing, so I slowed even more, thinking it must be an emergency. I was right: when the car finally went past me, I noticed the driver's middle finger was badly dislocated. What is the etiquette here?
WE ARE expected to keep left when not overtaking, and we shouldn't hog the right lane, even when overtaking. Move out, overtake, and move back to the left. The driver flashing lights and tooting was probably frustrated at your slow progress. They should see a shrink.
