Nissan Patrol 2001: How much should a clutch replacement cost?

Nissan Nissan Advice Nissan Patrol Nissan Patrol Advice Nissan Patrol 2001

I OWN a 2001 3.0-litre turbo diesel GU II Nissan Patrol with 130,000km on the clock. The clutch is slipping. The first quote I received for a new heavy-duty PBR clutch and machining of the flywheel came to $1120 including five hours labour. The second quote was for $1453, but included 10 hours labour. The third quote was $2315 and I was told my vehicle has a dual mass flywheel that can't be machined so this price includes an aftermarket flywheel replacement. Confused, I contacted Nissan. It quoted $3700 and agreed that I needed a new flywheel. Can you help me make sense of it all?

THE quote should be about $1600 to replace the clutch. A factory Nissan clutch kit costs about $600 and there would be about 10 hours labour, Nissan specialist Jerry Newman says. The gearbox is difficult to remove. Nissan allows more than seven hours to do it, so 10 hours is normal. Your Patrol does have a dual mass flywheel, but it can be machined for about $50.
