The Proton Jumbuck I bought in 2009 was the first brand new car I had ever bought in my life and has been nothing but a heart breaking and costly decision. When I was looking at Jumbuck the sales people were nothing but helpful and friendly, however once the decision to buy was made they were no longer interested at all. There have been lots of problems starting from the day after I took delivery of it. There was a broken gearshift boot, the motor in the driver's side window was not working, the bonnet latch had to be replaced, and the entire upper and lower dash was warped and needed replacing. That was juts the start of it, and if that wasn't bad enough getting the work done proved a nightmare with cancelled appointments, not to mention no courtesy cars of even a courtesy bus. I am beginning to become concerned that I have put myself in to $17,000 debt for a lemon. I have made various complaints to the dealer and have received no satisfaction, they seem to treat their Hyundai and Peugeot customers very well, but treat their Proton customers like they don't matter. When I phoned them Proton told me that because the issues were not safety related they would not buy back or replace the vehicle, I requested an extended warranty or discounted services and they stated that they do not feel that this situation warrants any good will. Proton advised that they do not normally have any issues with the Jumbuck Utes, and that "some customers would not be bothered by the things I have complained of". I am running out of options here, I would sell the car but the dealer themselves said they would only give me $9000 for it and I would have to pay back $17,000 to the finance company. What can I do?
The issues you are concerned about are not ones I would expect would make a carmaker want to buy the car back, but they are certainly things that need to be fixed under warranty and you must make sure they are fixed. That they don't seem to care about you and aren't responsive to your requests are issues you need to take up directly with the dealer. I would suggest you make an appointment to meet the dealer principal to discuss your problems. Attempt to get from him/her an agreement they will repair the car as they must do and work out a timetable of when it might happen. Although you are clearly frustrated, and you are probably right to be so, it hasn't in my view gone far enough to consult lawyers. That would be the final step.
