I have a 2015 Kia Sorento Platinum, which in the main is a fantastic car and we are extremely happy with it. The only problem I have with it is the towball weight, which is limited to 100 kg. The towing capacity is an acceptable 2-tonne. The normal ratio for the towball weight is 10 percent of the towing capacity, which should make it 200 kg, not 100 kg. Kia has confirmed to me that nothing is in the pipeline that will change the towball weight. I see this as a major shortfall in the Sorento, which turn buyers away. Do your Kia contacts have any good news to share?
Our information is that there is nothing on the horizon that will change the towball weight, but we are told the Sorento will tow 2 tonnes if the caravan or whatever is being towed is loaded correctly and a load-equalising hitch is used and used properly. Kia has a hitch available, and you could also go to a company like Hayman-Reese.
