Each time I after starting my new Subaru Liberty I hear a clunking sound when the speedo reaches about 20 km/h. Following my second visit to the dealer I was told that it was caused by the ABS module priming and it is quite common with Subaru vehicles. I have also contacted Subaru who directed me back to the dealer. I find the noise disconcerting, as I have never experienced it in any of the numerous cars I have driven. Is this noise acceptable or can it be rectified?
I have had reports in the past from owners of other vehicles, different brands, complaining about a clunk at low speed and that their dealers have told them that it was the ABS self-checking. Now, I have never experienced the clunk myself on any of the many cars I have driven in the course of my work in testing vehicles, and I have always dismissed it as BS from the dealer. But I have asked Subaru to tell me if it the dealer is correct or not.
