Subtract the spacers

I read Glen Rollason's letter (Dec 5) asking for help with his VN Calais V8, which has a vibration in a certain rev range under load. I own the same model car, which had the same vibration, and found that because most V8 Commodores from 1989 on have factory FE2 suspension with a lower ride height, the two-piece tailshaft no longer runs true after a while due to suspension sag or lowering. I fixed the problem by removing the spacers fitted between the floor and the tailshaft centre bearing until the shaft ran true.

Thanks, Steve, and good advice. The Commodore has always suffered from driveline shudder, mostly related to the driveline angles, and removing the spacers above the centre bearing changes the angles nicely.
