Over the last 20,000 km my 2006 Toyota RAV4 has developed a thirst for oil. It has done 105,000 km and is currently using oil at the rate of 3 liters per 10,000 km. There are no leaks, it doesn't blow any smoke, and there is no loss of power. The motor runs sweetly, and makes no strange noises. The dealer has examined the spark plugs, which are clean and dry, and the tailpipe shows only a light deposit of dry black soot. They have tested the compression and it within specification; they have also had a look in the cylinders with a micro camera, and can see no scoring or unusual residues. They say that it is unheard of for a RAV4 to use so much oil. Do you have any ideas?
It is heavy oil usage, and in our experience unusual for a Toyota. Perhaps other owners can tell us if they have had a similar experience.
