2022 Subaru Outback price and features: Skoda Superb Scout rival gets more expensive in the new year

The fifth-gen Subaru Outback hit Australian showrooms in early 2021, and has now been updated for 2022.

Subaru has given its Outback high-riding wagon range a light refresh for 2022, tweaking specification and adding a new special-edition variant, but also raising prices across the board.

Now priced at $40,690 before on-road costs, the entry-level unnamed Outback jumps in by $700 for 2022, but scores 18-inch alloy wheels with black centre caps and a revised seat-back pocket – the latter applicable to all 2022 cars.

Carryover equipment includes and 11.6-inch portrait-style multimedia touchscreen and X-Mode off-road driving modes, as well as safety features such as front and rear autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition, driver attention alert, and a reversing camera.

The new-for-2022 and aptly named Premium Special Edition then slots in at $44,190, and adds heated front and rear seats, Nappa leather interior trim, a powered tailgate and satellite navigation to the spec sheet.

Next up on the Outback ladder is the Sport, which has also jumped $700 to $45,190, and just scores the back-seat pocket modification.

The Sport is also differentiated by its black exterior accents, surround-view camera, dark alloy wheels and roof rails with green detailing.

However, it’s the flagship Touring grade that features the biggest change in price, increasing $1200 to $48,990, but also the most additions to equipment.

Now standard in the 2022 Outback Touring are ventilated front seats and an adjustable thigh support extender for the driver’s seat, which join equipment including a sunroof, nine-speaker Harman Kardon sound system and gloss-finished alloy wheels.

Subaru has also switched the Dark Blue Pearl colour option for a Sapphire Blue Pearl, while Crystal White Peal, Ice Silver Metallic, Autumn Green Metallic, Crimson Red Pearl and Magnetite Grey Metallic return.

Like before, all 2022 Subaru Outbacks are powered by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, outputting 139kW/245Nm.

Paired to the engine is a continuously variable transmission (CVT), which drives all four wheels.
