The Chery Tiggo 4 Pro, which is the most affordable new SUV on sale in Australia, just got a big boost.
The budget-friendly small SUV, which is priced from $23,990 drive-away, now comes with a five star safety rating from the Australiasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).
The Tiggo 4 Pro’s safety result means the Chinese brand’s entire range now has a five star safety rating.
It also beats some scores from big name brands.
Recently the Honda CR-V was slapped with a four star safety rating, as was the new MG ZS small SUV.
The new MG3 hatchback, Jeep Avenger SUV and Hyundai i30 sedan were hit with a three star rating.

The diminutive Suzuki Swift was given a one star result after particularly bad scores in the physical crash test.
Despite its compact size the Tiggo 4 Pro received good results in adult and child occupant tests.
It was also awarded top marks for how it performed against vulnerable road users and for its expansive list of standard active driver aids.

ANCAP did note that vehicles built before November, 2024, needed to have a safety recall completed to achieve the five star result.
The recall requires a software update to fix an issue with the auto emergency braking technology.
“Due to a software issue, the vehicle may not have the Autonomous Emergency Brake (AEB) sound alarm activated,” said the official recall notice.
