Citroen, Holden, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Peugeot models recalled

Holden has called back three of its models – including the Colorado – over missing safety labels for their jack assemblies.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has announced its latest round of automotive recalls, with models from Citroen, Holden, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi and Peugeot affected.

Mercedes-Benz Australia called back three of its models this week, with the CLA sedan and GLA SUV – made between October and November 5, 2016 – impacted by the same airbag issue.

If involved in a crash, these vehicles may not see the left window airbag deployed, which increases the risk of occupant injury.

As well, the SLK roadster – sold between May 2015 and December 2016 – has been recalled to resolve a problem with its electronic stability program (ESP) software.

When a driver assistance system like adaptive cruise control is active, the brakes may remain engaged after they have already automatically intervened in a hazardous situation.

This leads to continuous vehicle deceleration that could cause the braking system to overheat and wear excessively, which heightens the chance of injury for occupants and other road users.

Owners of these affected models will be contacted via mail, before being instructed to have their vehicle inspected and repaired at their preferred Mercedes-Benz dealership.

Meanwhile, Peugeot Australia has issued a safety notice for 4204 examples of its 4008 SUV – on sale between April 2012 and December 2015 – while Citroen Australia has called back 252 units of the platform-sharing C4 Aircross – sold between June 2012 and December 2013 – for a similar tailgate issue.

An insufficient amount of anti-corrosion coating was applied to the outer tube end cap of the tailgate's gas springs during the manufacturing process.

In such a situation where the end cap corrodes, it could break and then cause the user to be struck by the tailgate, potentially on the head.

Once again, impacted owners will be notified by mail to organise an inspection and replacement of the faulty parts at their local Peugeot or Citroen dealership.

Mitsubishi Australia has recalled its Outlander PHEV plug-in SUV – on sale between September 19, 2013 and March 2, 2017 – over a possible engine software fault.

The malfunction may result in the petrol engine disengaging altogether, which would force the hybrid to drive exclusively in pure electric vehicle (EV) mode, forgoing the charging aid provided by the internal combustion unit.

As such, the electric motor will discharge the battery until power is completely lost, which would increase the risk of an accident.

After being informed via mail, owners can take their vehicles to their preferred Mitsubishi dealer for a replacement of the spark plugs and an update of the faulty software.

Lastly, Holden Australia has tendered a notice for its jack assemblies from the pre-facelift Colorado pickup, as well as the Colorado 7 and Trailblazer SUVs.

Several of these jacks did not have the correct safety labels fitted, which are important as they list correct usage instructions.

Owners with affected jacks can call Holden Customer Care or contact their nearest dealership to arrange a label to be adhered.

Anyone looking for additional information on these recalls – including a list of impacted Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) –  can search the ACCC’s Product Safety Australia website.
