A joint collaboration brand called Baojun, between General Motors, SAIC and Wuling in China, has already made some waves this year with the reveal of a compact SUV with cutesy styling.

Somewhat like an electric city-going answer to the Suzuki Jimny, the Baojun Yep is a less-than 3.4-metre-long city SUV powered by a single-motor drivetrain making it perfect for inner-urban environments.

Now, Baojun has revealed a ute version of the Yep, as if it's trying to tease us with an even more Australian-city friendly model we won't get.

Images of the ute were posted this week to the brand's Weibo social media account, with the design studio showing off a version of the Yep that forgoes the wagon back for a tray, maybe just big enough to fit a few houseplants in.

The wagon version of the Yep is already only 3381mm long and 1685mm wide, with its 1721mm height likely also roughly the same given its similar roof racks.

Its battery and output, if the same as the SUV, should be 50kW from its rear-mounted motor, drawing from a lithium iron phosphate battery that the brand claims provides a driving range of 303km, tested with lenient CLTC criteria.

The SUV version of the Yep has also been revealed to come with a digital screen mounted to the rear in the style of a 'spare wheel' cover, though the screen is designed to let drivers display preset images or elements like a 'watch'.

According to Chinese media, an all-wheel-drive version is in development, while the standard version of the SUV is set to launch this month.
