Forget the RS6, this could be Audi's new ultimate wagon! A6 Avant e-tron electric car detailed with massive driving range and luggage capacity

The Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept is built on the new PPE architecture enabling cutting-edge technologies.

Audi’s next-generation A6 Avant might come with electric power, if the just-revealed A6 Avant e-tron concept is any indication.

Not just a reskin of the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, the latest Audi concept is built on the new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture that will underpin a wide gamut of Audi and Porsche models in the future.

The PPE architecture enables cutting-edge EV technologies such as 270kW fast-charging capabilities that can recoup around 300km of driving range in just 10 minutes.

With a flat 100kWh battery fitted to the base of the vehicle to keep weight distribution low, the new Audi show car will travel up to 700km on a single charge, according to tougher WLTP stands.

The A6 Avant e-tron concept also boasts 350kW/800Nm from a dual-motor set-up that also enables all-wheel-drive, but this will, of course, change with different variants and specifications.

In entry-level grades, Audi is targeting a zero-to-100km/h acceleration time of less than seven seconds, while the top-spec versions will need less than four seconds to hit the landmark time – potentially making it as quick as an RS6 that needs 3.6s.

Measuring 4.96m long, 1.96m wide and 1.44m tall, the A6 Avant e-tron concept’s dimensions are near identical to the existing A6 Avant, while its styling is an evolution on the brand’s current language.

From the outside, the A6 Avant e-tron concept is unmistakably Audi thanks to its large single-frame grille and pumped-up rear fenders.

However, the enclosed front grille and aerodynamically optimised rear end allude to its all-electric powertrain.

Audi is talking up the concept’s aerodynamic efficiency, but expect to see some styling tweaks – like the replacement of the show car’s 22-inch wheels – before the car makes it to production from 2023.

Audi is also saying the design of the A6 Avant e-tron will inform future electric models, with the PPE architecture set to proliferate across light cars (A1) and mid-sizers (A4).
