Holden Astra 2019 RS Black Edition joins hatch line-up

The newly added Holden Astra RS Black Edition includes a number of cosmetic changes over the standard version.

The Holden Astra hatchback range has seen the addition of a new limited-run Black Edition model, based on the RS variant.

The 2019 Holden Astra RS Black Edition model adds a number of cosmetic changes over the regular RS, including the addition of black 17-inch wheels, black exterior trim highlights and decals, and tinted rear glass.

The new model is likely to be on sale until 30 September 2019, according to the company’s site, and it adds a slight price increase for the extra stylish stuff you get. Holden is advertising the RS Black Edition for $27,490 drive-away, while the regular RS model is listing at $25,990 drive-away. The company says the black pack attracts a $500 increase over the standard RS, if you go off list prices.

Standard equipment on RS models includes the Holden Eye auto emergency braking tech with lane keep assist, along with blind spot monitoring, push-button start and keyless entry, heated and power-folding side mirrors and semi-autonomous parking. It comes with a 7.0-inch media screen incorporating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as DAB radio.

The Astra RS is powered by the more grunty 1.6-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, with 147kW of power and 280Nm of torque - and it comes as standard with a six-speed automatic transmission. The lower-grade R and R+ models get a 1.4L turbo with 110kW/240Nm.

The renewed focus on the hatchback range comes as no surprise, as Holden recently axed the sedan and wagon versions of the Astra due to lacklustre sales.
